"Casta Diva"
2022
Books, plaster, acrylic paint, beached trunk, metal
92 x 70 x 27 cm
This crescent-shaped beached wood inspired the sculpture Casta Diva which is also the title of the protagonist’s cavatina cantabile in Vincenzo Bellini’s Norma. It is the most famous page composed by Bellini, a prayer that the priestess Norma raises to the moon, a venerated and at the same time protective natural element. Peace on earth is asked of her. We like to think of a future where Culture represented here by books and Nature (the beached trunk) can together help Humanity resolve existing conflicts, to coexist in harmonious sustainability
TheLibriBianchi sculptures aim to mend the rift between humanity and nature, as humankind has become aware of exploiting the planet's resources solely for the benefit of a small fraction of living beings. Thus, books, as paper, choose to return to their origins, becoming part of the tree once again.
